Happy Wednesday, babes! I woke up this morning, looked out the window, and just smiled. Spring has officially sprung, and it is beautiful. I’m sitting here, drinking my morning coffee, listening to the birds singing, and writing a blog. There are few things that come close to the happiness this type of morning brings my heart. It is an amazing feeling to create something out of nothing. To see all the words in my head become a post on paper. Anyone else agree? Creating things is just so satisfying. It doesn't have to be a blog. It could be something even bigger, like a business. Or something smaller, like the perfect entryway or mudroom in your house. When it all comes together and you steal those quiet moments as you step back and appreciate the things in this life you have created - remember that special and unique feeling and strive towards it always.
This weekend for the holiday, DJ and I got in the car and trekked across the state of Pennsylvania to visit his grandparents. Between some laughs, some music, some laughter, and some snacks - okay I lie, A LOT OF SNACKS - during the car ride I had some time to catch up on reading. I have been trying to read Girl, Wash Your Face for about 5 months now. I love reading, especially self love books like this one, and after this weekend I am going to try and make it more of a priority. In these books, this one especially, are literally all of my insecurities, worries, doubts, fears, and questions acknowledged and recognized. It is almost scary to read something, page after page, that you can relate to. I found myself highlighting pretty much the whole book on my Kindle. It was just so relatable. I thought to myself, these are some really good topics to blog about. But then the terrible thought of having to decide on which highlighted passage I would write about surfaced. And just like that, like it always happens, there was one that was just too perfect. I didn't need to make a choice, this one just presented itself to me at the perfect time. Now, I’m going to warn you, it is a little long, BUT stay with me. It is worth the read. You deserve to hear this. You need to hear this. So, here we go… Oh. This was taken from Girl, Wash Your Face written by Rachel Hollis (10/10 you should def read) Okay, now we are ready…
“Someone else’s opinion of you is none of your business. Those words are so powerful for anyone who tends to hold other people’s opinion ahead of their own; and they are never more profound when we are creating something. Maybe it’s a book, a blog, a company, a piece of art, or your fashion sense. When you're creating something from your heart, you do it because you can’t not do it. You produce it because you believe your creation believes to be out in the world. You work and work and then close your eyes and cross your fingers and hope it finds recognition. But here's the thing about that magical, mystical thing you're making: You create because you have a God-given ability to do so. You create as a gift to yourself and to the higher power who blessed you with those abilities. But you can’t make people like or understand it.”
Wow. Just wow. After re-reading that again, I just don't know what to say. Other than read it and believe it. It is all so true. We are all human, and we will always doubt our choices. But we need to shift the perspective of why we are doing things. We aren't doing them for attention, money, recognition, but simply because our heart would beat differently if we didn’t. The talents that you have, use them. You were meant to use them. If you're missing joy in your life, I want you to ask yourself what the things are they you love to do, and then ask yourself if you’re doing them. We need to start being unapologetically ourselves. Time to stop apologizing and just start doing. No one but you needs to understand why you are doing it. No one else’s opinion should sway your decision on whether or not to do it. But I understand it is not that simple. So that is why I am writing this blog. To inspire you to do all of the things you were born to do. I want you to sing, dance, bake, paint, design, cook, whatever it is, do it. Believe me beautiful, you can’t not do these things any longer. So right now, imagine what it is that you would do if there were no negative opinions from family members or stigmas from society. Do you have it in your head? Perfect, now go do the damn thing. I cant wait to watch you be unapologetically YOU. It will be the most beautiful version of you yet, I promise with all my heart. And if you need one last push, here is a song from Summer that just says it all in a different way. Music soothes the soul. So read this, listen to that, and then let’s start creating. I have a feeling along the way we will find an even more beautiful thing, ourselves.
All my love,
