To my dearest tribe...Happy Monday! I hope that the weekend treated you well and that you are ready to feel all LOVE this week will bring! This post will be a little different than what we are used to because while I love to bleed that TORQUE green, my true colors are blue and white! That’s right, Penn State baby! I know, I’m one of THOSE people who scream “We are” at random people wearing Penn State shirts but, I think a lot of people think Penn State and automatically think football. Don’t get me wrong there is nothing I love more than a tailgate and football game in Happy Valley, but Penn State is so much more than football. I could sit here all day and tell you about it, but I have one goal for this blog. It’s four letters. It’s 46 hours. It’s emotional. It’s moving. It’s amazing. It’ For The Kids. It’s THON.
For those of you who have no idea what I’m talking about have no fear, keep reading (and maybe grab some tissues!) THON is a 46-hour student-run dance marathon that raises money for children who are impacted by cancer. THON is the LARGEST student-run philanthropy in the entire world. Over the years, Penn State has raised $146,000,000 for the Four Diamonds Foundation to help children fight for their lives. Covering medical bills, chemotherapy treatments, emotional support, cancer research, and everything and anything that comes their way, this foundation makes sure that the families focus on one thing and one thing only, their kids.
If I am being honest, there truly are no words to describe just what it is. It is something that I am so beyond proud to be associated with and that I hold so close to my heart. Below I have attached a link to a recap of last years THON weekend. Please take the time to watch it. My words will never do justice to what this weekend is about. The smiles on those kids faces. The pure joy that they bring. The energy of the students. The environment itself, it is amazing. My friend, Tyler Dunphy, will be dancing for 46 hours straight. No sitting, no sleeping, no coffee, no nothing! I cannot wait to go and watch him and hundreds of other students stand up to cancer for the kids. I have attached his fundraising page to this blog. Every penny adds up. Please give whatever you can, I promise you it will make a difference!
In many ways, THON and TORQUE are the same. Coming together to fight towards a better tomorrow. No matter what the cause, no matter how much money, the mindset is the same. Let’s show those kids some TORQUE love! I know if anyone can open their hearts, this is the tribe. So TORQUE tribe, wherever you may be. Take a minute and be thankful for all you have. Whether it is a beautiful family or a fantastic job or a clean bill of health, remember that someone out there is fighting for their life. This is one of those moments that we have the opportunity to help those in need. Don’t let them pass you by because you never know when you will be on the other side of this equation. Make sure you go home tonight and give your loves some love! Be thankful for their health. Be grateful for their smiles. Listen to their laughs. And count your blessings each and every day, no matter how big or small they are.
We sweat. We dance. We recharge. This week I ask you to do one thing. Dance For The Kids.
“One day we will dance in celebration, but until then we dance for a cure.”
With only love, Caroline
