Friday, FriYAY! We did it TORQUE tribe, we made it to Friday. Not that I had any doubts that we would, but sometimes the week just lags on and Friday seems like it is so far away, but not today because if you're living in the present, it is right here. So take a second. Take a deep breath. Exhale. And be proud of yourself for making it through another week of this journey of life that we are on. Whether your week was a breeze or not, I think that in the past few days our social media pages, the news, the radio, every which way we look we have been exposed to the ugliest sides of this country. And it is hard. To see the not so pretty sides of people. To see words being used to bring people down, rather than lift people up. I know it upsets me to see and hear some of the things that people say and do. At times it makes me scared of where this country is headed. What is happening to society? Because to me, it feels like it is no longer about being a good person, all that matters is if you are “right”. I put that in quotes because who is right? How do we know? Who is the judge? And even if we are “right”, what does that get you? Where does that take you? It is a question we all need to ask ourselves.
So earlier this week, I was in class and we got into a discussion about society as a whole. In a room of 20 plus college students, the discussion can get heated. There are so many opinions, so many viewpoints, so many thoughts that want to be heard, and as I was sitting there I realized that no one was “wrong”, because if I want my opinion to be valued, I need to value others, right? So as I was sitting there, my professor kept asking, so how do we fix it? And answers, like changing the laws, holding people accountable for their actions, and fighting back, were all thrown out there. But I sat there and thought, “well that will put a band-aid on the wound, but will it solve it?”. The answer is no. Because the reality is, we have to get to the root of the problem. And when you take away all the laws, all the rules, all the social norms, you have one thing…human beings. That is you, and me, and all of us. In this world that we all share.
So this was on Wednesday morning. Later on in the day, I got a text from our boss babe herself. It was a song and I listened. Not only was the song beautiful, but it was a perfect lesson for all of us. The song was, “Love Wins” by Carrie Underwood. The lyrics were so beyond perfect, for so many situations. Because we all face pain. We all have struggles. We all have hate in us. We all have tears to cry. We all have beliefs. But we all have each other. We are sisters and brothers. We were made to be here together, to face all of this together, side by side. And it is hard to have so many views, and stories and feelings come together and to find ONE answer to fix it all. But, we already have it, we just chose not to see it.
To be considered alive, you need one thing… a beating heart. As long as your heart is beating, you are living. It is funny how symbolism is so spot on sometimes because what is the heart the universal symbol for. The answer is love. Love is the only thing that we desire, that we need, the only thing that is worth fighting for. Love is the answer to every single hardship. Every single struggle. All the sad stories. All the hate. All the cuts and bruises. Love is what we crave. It is what we gravitate towards. Our souls long for it and sometimes it is hard to see, to feel, to spread. Because it is not always easy to love the people who hurt you or the ones who disagree with, but that is the only thing that will always be 100% the “right” choice. Because at the end of the day, people will forget what you say, but they will never forget how you made them feel.
We all have to power to be the change that we wish to see in this world (Thank you Gandhi) by going home and loving our families(Mother Theresa xo). We can start small. We can be examples. We can do what we can with what we have. And how lucky are we, to have a place, in our community, that does exactly that. Teaches love. If everyone had a little “TORQUE” in them, this world would be a better place. So we challenge you TORQUE tribe, to be the example. Spread love everywhere you go. Prove that it is the “right” answer. And that in the end, know love will always win.
Sending you all so much love. So many hugs. So much hope. And so much courage. Go use your heart to make something beautiful. That is all you are capable of my loves, beautiful things! And in case you forgot..
I LOVE YOU!
