Hey there TORQUE loves! I hope you're weekend has been fab and that you were able to finally enjoy some sunshine! (vitamin D where have you been!!) This week I wanted to focus on how we can keep implementing those new years resolutions into our life. Packing lunches are a great way to ensure that you stay “on program” all week long. Not only do they help monitor what you are eating everyday, they also save you a ton of money! (BONUS!) I am right here with those of you that are working every day. A granola bar isn’t cutting it anymore and what I am finding is if I don't pack a well planned lunch, that is when I tend to get off track with my healthy living lifestyle. So how do we make packing lunches fun and worthwhile?! Here are some things that I have been doing that have been made a world of difference!
1. Buy a cute lunch box and proper Tupperware. Being excited about packing lunches starts by being prepared. If you have the stuff to put it in, you are more likely to start doing it. There are so many helpful things to buy for packing lunches that it makes it ten times easier! So, next time you are out, pick up all the necessities that you will need and start packing lunches you feel good about!
2 .Meal prep! Sundays are a perfect day to head to the grocery store and pick up the ingredients to make lunches for the week. Have a little fun with it! There are so many amazing ideas on Pinterest on how you can graduate from granola bars and yogurt to quinoa salads and soups! Make a plan and try to stick it it! Again, if you buy all the stuff, you're more likely to follow through with it! Planning is key!
3 .OVERPACK with healthy options. Not one person on this planet has become unhealthy or gained a pound by eating too many carrots. Load up on good snacks and munch guilt free! This is something that I am trying to really implement into my lunch box. I know that once I finish the main part of my lunch, I always want something else. Instead of hitting the vending machine or grabbing the leftover cookies on the table, I can eat something I feel good about because I planned for it. Fruits and veggies are great options, but so are nuts, dried fruit, granola etc! Keep your lunchbox full of yummy things to satisfy any and all cravings.
4. Pack tea bags! I know that when 2 pm rolls around I want another cup of coffee. I have recently noticed though that it is just a habit that I have. I really am just craving something warm. I have started packing tea bags in my lunch box (and leaving a mug at work). This way at 2 pm, I can heat up some water in the microwave and enjoy something warm to get me to the golden hour! (aka leaving time!)
5 .Keep some sweets in there! I am guilty of having candy at an arms reach of me at all times. Keeping some lollipops or hard candies in my lunch box are such a good way to feed into my sweet tooth without going completely off program. Some days you just want something sweet and being prepared for that is part of the plan. I keep some Organic Lollipops or chocolate chips in my lunch box to keep me from eating the box of donuts in the teachers lounge! Everything in moderation is KEY!
I hope that some of these are helpful and spark an interest to start packing lunches more often. it really is a great way to feel good about the food you are eating. It makes living a healthy lifestyle more fluid and while it is a lot of work at times, once you figure out what works for YOU take it and run with it. Keep up all the good work TORQUE babes! New year, new US! We totally got this and together we will reach new heights!
