Happy New Year TORQUE babes!! It is here, 2019. Fresh start, new chapters, clean slates. Everything and anything. This year truly can be whatever you make it. We all have the power in us to control where our story takes us. While there will always be ups and downs, curveballs, and unexpectedness, we can deal with life as it comes. We can respond rather than react. We can find the good, shift our perspective, and make the most out of it. This time of year we not only reflect, but we plan. We think about what we have done and what we want to do. Where we have have gone and where we want to go. Who we are and who we want to be. We have this image in our head of who we are going to be in a year. But that is where we need to stop and think. That is where we need to give credit to the person who is reading this. That is where we need to recognize the person who is here and how far he or she came. How much you have grown in the past year. Before we start planning about how much more we can change or how much better we can be, we need to acknowledge the work that was already done. So right now, before you start making your list, thank yourself for the past year. For all the hard work, the growth, the tears and the laughs, all of it. Be proud of where you are right now in your journey. Because New Years is just a day. It is not the end all to be all. Things aren't magically better because the calendar says January 1. This day is the most perfect reset button. So let’s do that…reset. We need not change every single aspect of us because then we lose sight of who we are, but we can simply reset, change our perspectives, and start new. We are in this together loves, and I think that together is the only way to continue on this journey of finding the best versions of ourselves.
While setting goals are a fantastic thing to do and a great way to practice self love, they can also be dangerous. We need to remember that goals are just guidelines. They are things that we want to accomplish, but how we do it is up to us. Last year I made a huge, detailed list of goals. I was certain that 2018 was going to be my year. When I sat down to write my goal, all 33 of them, I realized that they needed to be attainable, detailed, and wholesome. Many of us say we want to be healthy, but what does that mean? Or that we want to be nicer…but how? I realized that pinpointing not only what I wanted to do but HOW I would do it was the key to me achieving them. Once I wrote them all out, I made them visible. Another KEY aspect to achieving them. Hold yourself accountable to the goals that you set. Don't let them become a piece of paper that gets mixed I with recipes and art projects. Give them the time and space that they deserve. Let them become apart of your everyday life…because that is the goal right? to implement them into your life. So make them part of it. You would be surprised what a piece of paper hanging up does for you.
I haven't yet made my goals for 2019. I have some in mind, but I usually take all of New Years Day to think about them and then write up my list, hang it on my bulletin board, and work little by little to check them off. I decided that maybe sharing some of my goals from 2018 would be a great way for others to get ideas on what type of goals we should be setting. I hope that there are a few in there that you can add to your list. Remember, make them detailed and attainable. Don’t set time frames. Make them wholesome. Hang them up. And then, dust off your wings and fly. You can do this. We can do this. We WILL do this. Together, hand in hand.
1. Be proud of failures, they are proof that you are trying.
2. Spin more.
3. Drink more water.
4. Eat less candy.
5. Only buy what I need.
6. Call friends and family more often.
7. Random acts of kindness.
8. Tell the ones you love that you love them.
9. Be patient.
10. Be a light for someone.
11. Listen to other, but most importantly to yourself.
12. Say YES.
13. Take pictures.
14. Give instead of take.
15. Take risks.
Finally, my wish for all of you in 2019 is this…To be fearless in the pursuit of what sets your soul on fire. Sending all my love to you all today and always.
