Happy Wednesday TORQUE babes! I almost can’t believe that the sun is SHINNING and that the warm weather has finally arrived! I mean did anyone see the sky last night as the sun was setting…totally stunning!! Please don't wake me if I’m dreaming, because it is too good to be true!! So it’s a Wednesday and as tradition holds these are the days we get to crush on a strong TORQUE gal. This week we get to crush on a girl who bleeds green to the fullest; Michele Sausser. THIS LADY. Let me tell you. First of all she kicks ass on the bike. I rode next to her last night in class and let’s just say she gave me a run for my money. She doesn't stop. Like at all. Barely for a drink, I was amazed. Secondly, she gets me laughing on the bike! Pre class, during class, and after class! She makes spin fun. I think that a lot of the time we walk in there to work on us. We zone out, we think things to ourselves etc. Michele had me laughing and smiling through sprints with her cheers and her “moans and groans”. She is a JOY to ride next to, 10/10 recommend. But on a serious note, she has shown me her heart, through her smile. She just takes me back eith how real she is. I look at her and talk to her and know she is genuine. Her heart has amazing intentions, her smile really brightens up even the darkest of rooms, and this write up, guys, I didn't change one thing. I read it and was brought to tears. I had to leave it just as it was because it is that good. Michele, you are so special. You are an inspiration to this entire tribe. You understand TORQUE and all that it stands for. I, personally, am so happy that our paths have crossed. I know that there are so many more who can say the same thing! Don’t change ONE thing, we love you just as you are!
To read more about Michele and her love for TORQUE keep reading! As always, sending love, sunshine, and some belly laughs to you all wherever you may be!
Infinite X’s and O’s,
Favorite TORQUE memory:
This is so hard - birthdays, anniversaries, theme rides, baby announcements, and everything in between have brought so many amazing memories. But if you forced me to pick one it would have to be August 4th, 2017!! It started out as a few morning brew gals trying to plan a Friday out and turned into one epic day/night with a full limo bus of women heading to Philly to take over Soul Cycle. There was so much laughter, so many friendships built, and probably even some emotional tears here and there. I remember standing in my foyer hugging Summer. We stood there looking into my kitchen and listening to all the laughter and happiness. We talked about this amazing place she created and how that little dark room has brought us all together. I knew in that moment that some of these women who I just met a little over a year ago where going to be my friends for life. Friends who were like no other friends and were going to lift me up when I needed it the most. It was my true Girl Gang and one I would hold very close to my heart. And of course there was plenty of Champs and Tequila Strawberries!!!
Favorite quote and what it means to you:
“Life is not about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.” I am a huge believer that you set your own destiny. You need to believe in yourself and know you can accomplish anything you set your mind to. But you need to work hard. Life will throw things at you and you will fall. You need to believe you have the energy to get back up and keep going. I tell those around me all the time...YOU need to do it, nobody can do it for you. Take the time to understand what you want in your life, in your career, in your family, in your future aspirations...and then CREATE it.
My definition of TORQUE:
There are so many words to describe TORQUE. TORQUE to me is a place where I can come and just let go. It is my safe place. For those that know me, I am passionate about everything in my life (I go all in 100%). TORQUE allows me to be passionate in becoming a better person both physically and mentally. It allows me to show passion for people, for commitment, for friendships, and for all those positive vibes I really need in my life. I know if I walk in there feeling blah, someone or something will raise my passion again. It also would not be TORQUE without my morning brew crew and Kate Brewer. I love all the classes at Torque but the morning crew will always be near and dear to my heart. They truly start off every day with mental clarity. Love those ladies and how we support each other at 5:45 AM.
Favorite workout clothing brand:
Athleta - no question about it. I am not a high rise pants kind of girl and Athleta just has so much to offer for this short-waisted, not so tall gal. Well and of course I love all the Torque Swag and my credit card makes sure I remember that too! I am all about comfort and Athleta/Torque has definitely added some cuteness to the laid back uniform I wear every day when I am not in the office.
Favorite post-workout snack:
So this is also a hard one because I am starving either after a kick ass morning brew workout or my Monday/Saturday doubles. So deep down instead I want to drive my car to a breakfast buffet or some Taco bar. But I resist and I try to stick with a smoothie in the morning or some pretzels and hummus at night. I do love my chips and guacamole though.
Top 10 songs:
I seriously love every song that comes out of that iPad! But here are my top ten. They really just remind me of some of my favorite times with all those amazing instructors!
1. Off the Hook - Hardwel and Armin van Buuren
2. Call On Me - Ryan Riback Remix
3. Split (Only U) - Tiesto & The Chainsmokers
4. Rise - Katy Perry
5. Praying - Kesha
6. Girl Gang - Juicy M ft. Blimes Brixton
7. Cake - Flo Rida
8. Space Jam - MAKJ, Michael Sparks, Fatman Scoop
9. Stargazing - Kygo
10. Booty Time - Aazar
Michelle’s TORQUE schedule:
-Morningbrew 5:45 AM usually Wednesday through Friday: will always love me some Kate Brewer and now loving Kristin’s Barre (or as we say Barre on crack)
-Monday night doubles: either spin/Barre or TRX/spin - Monday night instructors are all super bad ass!
-Saturday mornings with Summer (TRX/Spin) or Spin/Barre with Jess/Julie
Fun facts, past times, family etc!
Before coming to TORQUE, I was an avid runner and someone who just needed to find something new. I was a Division I lacrosse player at UMASS and when I graduated I knew I would always need a goal to keep my mental sanity. I continue to run as it will always be a away to clear my mind but spinning, TRX/Barre, and boxing are really what make me feel stronger. I am stepping out of my comfort zone this July and doing my first SPRINT triathlon. And I am even contemplating doing another marathon (because I just always need a goal!).
I am a mother of an almost 9 year old daughter, 2 stepdaughters (almost 14 and 16 years old) and a 3 year old Australian cattle dog LuLu. They challenge me every day especially my almost 9 year old. My stepdaughters have been a part of my life since they were 2 1/2 and 4 and they live with us about 50% of the time. My husband who is the oldest of 4 boys just loves all the female conversations when we all finally sit down at the dinner table. We love to go on vacation but we also love to have Friday night pizza and a movie at home. It is our way to all decompress from the week and just be together.
As for my career, I am definitely passionate about that too. I have been working at Merck for almost 19 years in our Vaccine Clinical Operations Group. Every day is demanding but when you truly believe in what you do, it makes it a little bit easier. I have spent the majority of my time in pediatric vaccines, bringing the first Rotavirus (diarrheal disease) vaccine to the US, EU, Africa, Asia and many other countries. My most memorable moment was seeing the first baby in Mali vaccinated. I am so excited that I get to take my family to Africa this summer to experience something they will never forget. I continue to support the Vaccine portfolio at Merck and just love to see the amazing accomplishments and breakthrough therapies our company is seeing and will continue to see in the future.
And when I am not doing all of that...I love cooking (with of course a glass of wine), entertaining, and believe it or not sit by myself in a quiet room (usually around 10PM). My husband’s nickname for me is squirrel because “I am always busy” and “I just do not know how to sit down”. Fun fact about me is I truly wish I could be an introvert sometimes…which may be an impossible goal for me!
